From Trip Advisor..."Great job Nicole and Jim, had a great time at the Black Bear Inn.
Nicole was super with her recommendations and really made our trip easy. Nicole even stocked our refrigerator, she treated us like family. Great hospitality, would definitely return." "We stayed in the "bunkhouse," a spacious cottage with small kitchen and comfortable living area. The property is on the shore of Tongass Narrows, not quite 5 miles north of downtown Ketchikan--where you do not want to be when monster cruise ships dock, Hosts Nicole and Jim know the area intimately and will offer advice and suggestions. There is an outdoor kitchen with grills and a hot tub and a pleasant terrace for watching boats and seaplanes go past and the sun go down."
"Black Bear Inn is by far the most comfortable Bed and Breakfast I have ever stayed in. My wife and I visited in early September prior to boarding an Uncruise Adventure Tour in Ketchikan. After a long flight from the Northeast, this was the perfect place to unwind and relax. The owners pay close attention to hundreds of small details that are both creative make their guest feel at home for all of their needs and desires. Their taste in decor and location just slightly away from the buzz of downtown is scenic and convenient. We could have stayed the whole week there and skipped the cruise. You will be delighted to get to know the owners and the other clientele. Three suggestions: First take Nicole's advice on the best places to eat, transportation etc. She knows the area and people very well. Second, a car is nice idea if you plan to stay more than a day, but it is not absolutely essential. Third, be aware that you take a short ferry ride from the airport to Ketchikan to reach any ground transport. We will come back!"

"Jim and Nicole proved to be the most hospitable folks we have ever had on a stay. They made us feel at home but but top shelf accommodations. They have the local scene dialed in and gave us a hit list of places to go and people to meet. We got to meet some of the local artisans, experience the Totten parks, and get the flavor of the community. Thank you to our hosts! We will definitely stay again when we return."

Very cozy and charming place 5 min drive from Ketchikan's center. Placed on the pictorial cost of the bay, so if you are lucky you can see a whales from the window of the room. Nicole and Jim the owners are so friendly and open that you fell like you are in the family circle. Very difficult to leave this lovely place! I went fishing with a friend to Ketchikan, Alaska this past August. What we found was sensational. All rooms beautifully done. It was like we were staying in some fine hotel or a five star lodge. The colors and decor were a true work of art. It would be a great place to take my wife. Nicole truly put her heart and soul into this creation. If you want to get away yet not be so far from home, Then you must stay here. Her paint colors and comforts simply blew me away. Nicole is also very sweat and warm. She is also a very sincere godly woman. We will be back. The inn is located right on the channel, ocean. Jim & Nicole, |
My sister in-law and I found this gem quite by accident, best accident I ever had! We went to Ketchikan to research family history. Jim and Nicole made us feel like old friends. Their Inn is five star in our book!!! Our room was large and beautiful, they furnished everything a traveler would need on the road. The views from all the rooms were fantastic. From our deck we saws whales, eagles and seals. My eyes could not believe what they were seeing. I went to sleep at night watching the north harbor light blinking green and white. Watching the cruise ships, ferries and local commercial fishing boats go by was an added treat. This has been the best Inn I have ever stayed in! The comfort of home in the Alaskan wilderness was wonderful. The ability to have peace and quiet while still having an amazing host was refreshing! |
Thank you for making our first trip to Alaska such an amazing experience!
The Black Bear is well appointed – everything we needed and much more. It is such a peaceful, lovely respite. But more important to us was your hospitality. You were so welcoming and informative.
We have certainly made lasting memories at the Black Bear Inn!
